Retinal Imaging

In our continued efforts to bring the most advanced technology available to our patients, Bellaire Family Eye Care is proud to have the availability of Digital Retinal Imaging as an integral part of your eye exam.

Benefits:

  • Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress with no symptoms. Early on, you might not notice any change in your vision. However, diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, as well as other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure, can be detected with a thorough exam of the retina.

  • The opportunity for you to view and discuss the images of your eye with your doctor at the time of your exam.

  • A permanent record for your medical file.

  • Because changes that happen in conditions like glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy occur very subtly, the abnormalities are difficult to detect without having something to compare the appearance against. This ability to store and recall such high quality images is a major step forward. Can use the advanced digital technology to overall images over time for direct comparison.

Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer

  • A visual field test is a method of measuring an individual's entire scope of vision, that is their central and peripheral (side) vision. Visual field testing actually maps the visual fields of each eye individually.

  • Visual field testing is most frequently used to detect any signs of glaucoma damage to the optic nerve. In addition, visual field tests are useful for detection of:

  • Central or peripheral retinal disease

  • Eyelid conditions such as ptosis or drooping, particularly for insurance approval of lid lift surgical procedures
optic nerve disease, and diseases affecting the visual pathways within the brain such as tumors, brain swelling, injury or poor circulation, or stroke

  • Testing for macular diseases such as macular degeneration or toxicity from certain medications such as Plaquenil used for rheumatoid arthritis

  • Testing for peripheral retinal disease such as retinal detachment or retinitis pigmentosa

The Z-View® Aberrometer

The Z-View® Aberrometer is the instrument used in your iZon® eye exam to create your very own iPrint.  It’s a transformational breakthrough in vision diagnostics.  This integrated vision correction solution is the first to use Wavefront-guided technology to take superior, objective measurements of up to 6th order aberrations to generate a patient’s optical fingerprint, or iPrint.  In about a minute, your doctor can detect microscopic irregularities, or higher order aberrations, of the eye that can cause distortions and often times compromise your quality of vision – affecting things such as depth perception, crispness, contrast, color perception, and even nighttime vision.  It is the iPrint that powers the back surface of the customized iZon® High Resolution, or High Definition lenses.  The Z-View® Aberrometer uses a unique and propriety algorithm to convert over 10,000 points of resolution per eye into the patient’s unique optical fingerprint or iPrint.  This information is then used to create custom-made iZon® High Resolution spectacle lenses, giving patients the opportunity to experience a new level of visual acuity and performance, or WOW™ vision!

Neurosensory Diagnostic Equipment

Our Sensory View platform and the Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) electro-diagnostic equipment provide valuable insights into visual health, sensory integration, and neurological disorders. Electro-diagnostics allow us to measure and observe the flow of information from the eyes and other senses to the brain. This array of testing helps our doctors more accurately diagnose visual tracking disorders, dizziness, vertigo, headaches, and atypical sensitivities to light and sounds. Treatment protocols help address and treat the underlying causes of the symptoms and support overall improvements in health and well-being.
